The following line needs some clarification:
Why the lib32gcc1? Is this for installing/running hlds/srcds 32 bit programs in the 64 bit version of Ubuntu? Also, stating you need Ubuntu is rather redundant - if you weren't going to run Ubuntu you wouldn't be on this page. Maybe change the "Ubuntu" line to the download mirror list?

To set up SRCDS on Ubuntu you will need these things
- Ubuntu
- lib32gcc1

I believe so, either that or srcds requires the libs which are not usually installed.
Ok, I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu 9.04 server edition, 32 bit, then SCP the HL2MP install on CentOS I did for the Linux specific guide, and SRCDS fired right up with no lib complaints. What version of Ubuntu did you use? 8.10 or some other version? And you didn't answer the initial question - was this a 32 bit or 64 bit install you were working with?
I'll install the 64 bit version of 9.04 and see what complains.
EDIT: Ok, so I downloaded Ubuntu Server v9.04 x86_64, did a plain install with NO optional packages installed. Once the install was completed, I followed the basic Linux walkthrough I created to download hldsupdatool.bin and execute it.
Everything went ok until I actually tried to execute it. I had to issue the following command to actually make hldsupdatetool.bin execute:
apt-get install lib32gcc1
Which also installed (due to dependencies): libc6-i386
So now that's VERIFIED, only the 64 bit needs the lib32gcc1 library installed. THe 32 bit version of Ubuntu comes with everything you need on a base install with no optional packages required to be installed. We need to rethink the "Ubuntu SRCDS Installation page". On the Linux SRCDS guide, I'll add a note or something stating that 64 bit versions of Ubuntu Server 9.04 (and maybe earlier?) need the above packages installed.

besides lib32gcc1, I don't see any reason for this page to exist in such a specialised way.
The article should be "Installing SRCDS on Linux" and should link to special cases at the appropriate point (end?) of the article.
eg. "If you are using [generic term], you'll need to [do someting] before continuing."

Sorry for being so late on replying to this topic, I've been on vacation in Germany.
I wrote this wiki with Ubuntu 8.04 Server in mind since 8.04 has longer support than 9.04 and 8.04 doesn't come installed with lib32gcc1

wow I'm late to this party as well.
I would say it's safe to say that 64 bit Ubuntu doesn't come with the required lib's installed, at least since 8.04. I'll update the lib32gcc1 entry, and remove the Ubuntu specific walkthrough, unless someone says otherwise.
