James Coleman of Bristol, England became the "laughing stock of the office" after he got a black eye while using Twitter on the go. His humiliation could get so much worse than that. Coleman's story illustrates tidily what so many people hate about the microblogging service: Narcissistically documenting one's life all too often interferes with leading said life.

jesus when will this end ?

New technology is always interesting and fun to play with, but loosing focus on daily life is not good.

you're not the only one. I admit I do have a myspace & facebook account, but I never do anything with them. I checked facebook yesterday because I saw the UA facebook link ... the ONLY good that's come out of social networking, is the ability to find some old friends you haven't talked to in over 15-20 years ..... I had a twitter account, but failed to understand it's purpose ... microblogging? ok, sure .... IRC covers all my social networking needs.

Twitter is just another tool for online social connection. It accelerates conversations that get severely lagged or non-existent on Facebook/MySpace. There are increasing uses being discovered on using Twitter in business, which is probably where it'll be mostly beneficial for awhile.

If you don't understand it now, that's ok, most don't. And many on Twitter pretend to know what they're doing, and may even try to sell you info that they do, but seriously miss the boat.

For UA, I'm just using it as another way to send updates out, which some people may have twitter apps on their phones, which will be a far more alert notification system than email. Also, the UASupport will provide another support channel, for which may be more accessible by admins than IRC or the forums. Especially, when admins are on-site at a LAN or server center and really only have their cell phone as a communication device.
